Discover Teaching: Travel, Teach, & Tour England

Discover Teaching will survey the history, organization, and philosophy of American education with an emphasis on learning about American education by studying the history, organization and philosophy of education in England, specifically focused on the schools located in the vicinity of Edge Hill University, England. Additionally, students will participate in a practicum experience which will provide first hand experiences with members of a diverse culture and face to face interaction with students and teachers working in a different education system than the United States.This practicum experience is intended to promote a deeper understanding of culture and the impact of culture on teaching and learning while gaining knowledge and experience with teaching responsibilities. Students will compete 20-30 hours of classroom experience working with children in elementary and/or secondary schools in the vicinity of Edge Hill University.

Course pre-requisites: GPA of 2.6, pursuing a teaching degree and passing scores on PPST (reading 172, writing 172, & math 172). Please consult with Kristine Reed about eligbility.

USD Program fee* - $3050, includes:

*If more than 15 students sign-up for the program, the USD Program fee will be reduced by $250/person.

Be advised: to be eligible for federal financial aid students must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits during the summer term and 12 credits during the fall or spring terms.

Non-refundable deposit $500 DUE: January 31, 2014
Installment Payment $1250 DUE: February 28, 2014
Final Payment $1300 (est.) DUE: March 31, 2014

1. PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY AND ACCOMMODATION: Please be advised this program requires an extensive amount of walking on cobblestone and uneven pavement, riding trains and buses, and walking up and down stairs. Participants must contact USD Global Learning and/or USD Disability Services at least 30 days prior to departure to discuss accommodations.

2. VACCINATIONS: There are no required vaccinations or immunizations for this program in the UK. The CDC highly recommends all US citizens who travel international be vaccinated for Hepatitis B. For further information on traveler's health, visit the CDC website.
