Guatemala Experience
I. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Guatemala Experience will provide students numerous opportunities to interact with a culture that is very different than their own.  Differences that include race/ethnicity, religion, socio-economic, age/gender and special needs.  Students will experience a culture much different from what they are accustomed to in the United States while studying the impact of culture on teaching and learning. Course Pre-requisities: 3.0 GPA, and pursuing a degree in teacher education at the elementary or secondary level.

Financial Aid:
If you would like to inquire about using federal financial aid to help toward the expense of this program, contact USD’s Financial Aid Office as soon as possible. The FAO is reached by calling 605-677-5446 or going to www.usd.edu/finaid.

Be advised: to be eligible for federal financial aid students must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits during the summer term and 12 credits during the fall or spring terms.

Payment Schedule:

Non-refundable deposit $500 DUE: December 2, 2013
Installment Payment $1250 DUE: January 13, 2014
Final Payment $575 (est.) DUE: January 31, 2014
Please note: The tuition for the program will be billed to the student accounts separately upon registration into the course (no later than mid-March).

After 11/15/14 and before 1/12/14 $500
After 1/12/2014 and before 1/31/14 $1750
After 1/31/14 Full program fee, or $2325 (est.)


IV. IMPORTANT LOGISITICAL INFORMATION

1. PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY AND ACCOMMODATION: Please be advised this program requires an extensive amount of walking on cobblestone and uneven pavement, riding trains and buses, and walking up and down stairs. Participants must contact USD Global Learning and/or USD Disability Services at least 30 days prior to departure to discuss ADA accommodations.

2. VACCINATIONS: The CDC highly recommends, though DOES NOT requirem vaccination against typhoid and Hepatitis A and B for travel in Guatemala. Please note: these vaccinations are routine and commonly prescribed/recommended when traveling to places in Africa, Central and South America, and Asia.
