About This Program

Known as the "City of Eternal Spring," Cuernavaca's gorgeous climate, ancient ruins, and colonial architecture make it the perfect location to discover the language, culture, and warmth of Mexico. Originally a retreat for Aztec royalty, then the site where Cortés built his palace, the Cuernavaca of today is a cosmopolitan city and the fastest growing capital in the state of Morelos, with a population of about 500,000.

Courses are held at Cemanahuac Educational Community, an international language institute housed in a villa in the elegant Las Palmas section of the city. Living with a Mexican family offers further language practice and immersion in Mexican culture. Culture courses include field trips to the pyramids of Teotihuacan and other archaeological sites. A service-learning course offers you the opportunity to learn about social issues in Mexico through service with community organizations.

Cemanahuac arranges for students to live with Mexican host families for the duration of the program. The majority of families live within walking distance or a short bus ride of Cemanahuac, making it easy for you to get to and from classes. Living with a host family means more than just having accommodations and meals; it provides you with a unique opportunity to experience Mexican culture and daily life firsthand.

A one-day excursion to the pyramids of Teotihuacan is included in the cost of the program.
